5w-30 10w-30 oil difference 106444-Difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30 oil
The difference between 5W30 and 5W motor oil The main difference between 5W30 and 5W motor oil is that the latter is less viscous (or thick) When used in a vehicle's engine, 5W oil creates less friction due to its thinner viscosity, meaning it causes less drag across engine parts like the crankshaft, valvetrain, and pistonsThe 5w30 and 10w30 motor oils differ by their viscosity The former is less viscous than the latter 5w30 is thinner than 10w30 at low temperatures Thus, 5w30 is better suited for colder regions where the temperatures dip to – 30°C But this multigrade oil will work well even at 35°CAlways check your owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommended oil viscosity grade, API service classification and any builder approval 5W 5W30* 10W30* 10W40 W50 Grade SAE 5W SAE 5W30 SAE 10W30 SAE 10W40 SAE W50 Density @ 15 C, g/ml, ASTM D4052 0874 Density @ 156 C, g/ml, ASTM D4052 0859 0859 0858

Difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30 oil
Difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30 oil-Especially given that you live in Florida, 10W30 vs 5W30 is not an issue at all Sometimes thicker oil is even recommended in higher mileage engines, although I believe the jury is still out on it If you lived in Siberia, I would be a bit more concerned about it However, the coolant in the oil definitly needs to be addressed10W30 is a good middleoftheroad option for both hot and cold weather as it retains enough of the appropriate viscosity levels at both low and high temperatures Though 5W30 is more commonly used, 10W30 isn't far behind – and beats out 10W40 in its overall usefulness Why Should I Use 10W40?
0w 5w 5w30 10w30 10w40 Mobil 1™ Designed to help keep your engine running like new by providing exceptional wear protection, cleaning power and overall performanceThe difference between 10w30 and 5w30 oil is the thickness of the oil during cold weather conditions, 5w30 being the thinner of the two and therefore recommended for colder operational climates Engine oil is rated on a viscosity scale by the Society of Automotive Engineers, which determines its cold and warmweather rating;Like the synthetic form of SAE 10W30 or the Vanguard 15W30, synthetic oils are suitable for extended operations and other highend engine requirements If your region undergoes cold temperatures, the SAE 5W30 can help your cold engine start
Since the 1960's, multiviscosity oils have been popular In simple terms, a multiviscosity oil, such as 10W40, means that the oil will pour and flow like a 10weight oil at very lowWith 5w30, oil flows better upon startup compared to 10w30 because of the lighter viscosity since it weighs less than 10W30 The 10W30 oil flows badly because of the heavy viscosity However, 5w30 is not stable because it is lighter during hotter climates while 10W30 is heavier thus better performer in hot condition10W30 vs 10W40 Oil FAQs What is 10W 30 oil recommended for?
5W30 and 10W30 lubricants have exactly the same viscosity when your engine is running or at the operating temperature of the engine That is usually 100°C (212°F) for the average engines However, the 10W30 oil will be thicker when it is cool5W is the viscosity of 5W30 oil at cold or low temperatures, half as much as the 10W30 oil's 10W viscosity at a low temperature The lower viscosity of the 5W30 oil makes it a great choice for cold weather as it will ensure an easy and smooth startup with great lubrication even on extremely cold days 10WThe cold rating is indicated by a "w" for winter
5W30 A5 is a full engineered motor oil reasonable for use in car gas and diesel motors where the producer suggests an ACEA A5/B5, API SN/CF, ILSAC GF4 or prior determination 5W30 ointment 10W30 is appropriate for use in car petroleum and diesel motors where the producer suggests an API SN, ACEA A3/, A3/B4 or prior particular 10W30 greaseI've noticed that when I get my oil change every 3,000miles my oil (5W30) is darker than black coffee!!!Both the oils have similar viscosity at 100 degrees Celsius but 5w30 grade oil will thicken less than 10w30 grade oil in cold climate This means 5w30 grade oil will flow effectively in low temperatures, whereas 10w30 oil will flow effectively in high temperatures because of the smaller temperature window 5w30 oil gets thin enough when cold to provide adequate engine lubrication
About 0W30 Motor Oil 0W30 is a special type of motor oil It has a low viscosity and can be used in place of 5W30 or 10W30 The 0W30 is a fully synthetic motor oil type that is capable of enhancing and improving fuel economy due to its lower friction propertiesSo, 5W30 vs 10W30 really doesn't make a ton of difference with respect to oil burning, wear, leaks, etc since both will be 30weight once the engine has run for a few minutes (assuming of course that you're comparing oils from the same brand with the same types of formulation & additives)The 5W30 oil is a very good multigrade oil for low starting temperatures as well as high summer temperatures More so, it is highly fuelefficient creating less drag on the moving engine parts The 5W30 oil is fabricated to be used for machinery situated at locations where the temperature is lower than 22 degrees F
When it's time for an oil change — or just to top it up — you'll see a few different options, a combination of numbers and letters But what's the difference between 5W, 5W30, 10W30 and so on?The significant difference in both oils is that 10w30 will perform poorly under a cold atmospheric condition like during winter, while 5w30 will be more suitable for cold weather Under hot weather, the Viscosity of both is the same since they are 30In regard to multigrade oils, the first number in the code, such as 10W in SAE 10W30, means that the oil can still be pumped by the engine at a temperature as low as a single grade 10W oil A 5W, like in SAE 5W30, can be pumped at an even lower temperature, and a 0W, like in SAE 0W30, will pump at the lowest tested temperatures
What is the difference between 5W30 and 10W30 Oil is the lifeblood of every motor Without it, your ride is nothing more than a paperweight on wheels With respect to preventative maintenance, changing the oil on a regular basis is crucial It can easily mean the difference between your engine going 100,000 or 0,000 miles, not to mention the high cost of repairs that come with increased wear and tear!SAE XX is just singlegrade oil 10W30 can be pumped by your engine as easily as SAE 10 SA0 is likely a better oil than 5w30 or 10w30 because it has less additives?A higher viscosity oil, such as 10w30, will flow slower at low temperatures compared to a lower viscosity oil like 5w30 This is important because viscosity changes as temperatures change Viscosity decreases as the temperature of the oil increases A higher viscosity or thicker oil will seal better than a low viscosity oil
About 0W30 Motor Oil 0W30 is a special type of motor oil It has a low viscosity and can be used in place of 5W30 or 10W30 The 0W30 is a fully synthetic motor oil type that is capable of enhancing and improving fuel economy due to its lower friction propertiesYour engine's oil prevents friction and wear while carrying away heat and contaminants In other words, it keeps the engine healthyIt is the viscosity of the oil Like fluidity, 10w 30 is thicker and less fluid than 5W30 Thicker or more viscous oils are usually suitable for hot weather and thinner or less viscous oils like 5w30 are good for winter It also depends on the internal structure and design of the engine as well
The 5W30 is engine oil which has been widely used by several automanufacturers in nearly all the types of modern cars such as passengers, SUVs, truck and vans among others The most crucial aspect of 5W30 is that it is synthetic oil which does ensure a good beginning point and fast circulation of the freezing temperatures within the engine oilsThe only difference is the 5w30 is thiner than the 10w30 Most of the car manufactures have been recommending 5w30 because it works in all climate conditions, and you do not have to changeAnd I dont do lots of driving My driving consists of work which is 10 mins away and just around town The mechanic told me that I should change to 10W30 I just wanted to see how many of you guys use 5W30 or 10W30 Thanks !Thumbs Up
AMSOIL 0W30, 5W30 and 10W30 synthetic motor oils are ALL 30 weight oils The answer is that ANY one can be used regardless of the vehicle owners manual recommendation To better understand, in a 5W30 oil, the "W" stands for winter performance10W40 is thicker than 10W30 at higher operating temperatures 10W40 will have a higher viscosity at operating temperatures than 10W30 Oil that is able to maintain its thickness at high operating temperatures has many benefits to show for Generally Better In Warm Weather Thin oil and heat don't go well together, to say the leastOnce your enging warms up and is running at operating temperature, both 5w30 and 10w30 will have the same viscosity, namely 30 This is why it doesn't really make that big a difference, since most of the time, your car will be at operating temperature
Brand new engine oils including the 0W30, 5W30, and 10W30 perform as single weight grade oil at fully warmedup and operating temperature of your car The majority of engines designed before Ford had 5W oil specifications in 01, and 30W weight was the ideal oil weightYou can do it, but I do not recommend it I mean, if you know what is in your engine (let's say, 5w30), then do yourself a favor and stick to that oil Unless you mean to change to a different oil type Now, it can be done as an accident or as a rThe only difference between the two oils is the low temperature point, with the 5W30 functioning slightly better than the 10W30 Wintergrade oil stays thin even as temperatures drop, which
I have the paperwork for each motor and they all call for 5W30 for temperatures under 32 Farenheight and straight 30 weight for temperatures above 32 degrees This is a great application for full synthetic 5W30 as the motor will start easier as the temperature drops, particularly if you don't happen to have an electric starterSAE XX is just singlegrade oil 10W30 can be pumped by your engine as easily as SAE 10 SA0 is likely a better oil than 5w30 or 10w30 because it has less additives?I mean my car is ok with it in 110 degrees so what's the difference?
In your car owner manual, there is a list of recommended oil weight, whether it is a standard 5w30 vs 10w30, 10w40, 0w30 engine oil viscosity or any other You will have to choose an oil with recommended weight from a brand which displays a symbol of starburst that confirms it has been tested by API5W30 motor oil means that the oil has a thinner consistency in cold weather and will protect your engine at lower temperatures Also, 10W30 means the oil will be a little thicker at same lower temperatures, and will then protect the engine the same as 5W30 at higher temperatures 'W' means, useful for winter usageI have the paperwork for each motor and they all call for 5W30 for temperatures under 32 Farenheight and straight 30 weight for temperatures above 32 degrees This is a great application for full synthetic 5W30 as the motor will start easier as the temperature drops, particularly if you don't happen to have an electric starter
The only difference between these two oils is cold flow ability a 10w30 oil will move slower than a 5w30 oil during cold startups At operating temperatures, both oils will have the same viscosity (30) and will flow and protect identicallyThe 5W30 is engine oil which has been widely used by several automanufacturers in nearly all the types of modern cars such as passengers, SUVs, truck and vans among others The most crucial aspect of 5W30 is that it is synthetic oil which does ensure a good beginning point and fast circulation of the freezing temperatures within the engine oilsThe answer is that ANY one can be used regardless of the vehicle owners manual recommendation To better understand, in a 5W30 oil, the "W" stands for winter performance In winter weather the 0W oil will flow like a 0W oil, and the 5W will flow like a 5W oil and a 10W will flow like a 10W oil just until the engine warms up
Hello all, I am pretty convinced in going with 10w30 once my stock (2 more oil changes) of 5w40 synthetic runs out on my 14 Ford F550 powerstroke 67 However, since it is a motorhome, it can sit anywhere from 15 days at a time without being run (am pretty good at keeping it in goodAnd my engine has full pressure lubrication too Sorry for my ignorance I know my car engines, not so much my small engines If the oil is not too thin on a "cold" start for my car then why is it for y lawn mower?Would the 5W30 kill it though?
So YMMV depending of course on which of the dozens of 30 grade oils Mobil offers, and which two you are comparing If you wanted a thick 30, or a thick 10w30, that one would probably be it JT said The 5W30 probably has a higher Viscosity Index10W30 – While still quite "fluid", this oil is a little bit thicker at low temperatures than 5W30, making the process of starting your engine a little bit harder It is recommended for use at 25°C up to 35°C (outside temperature) It is thicker, less fuelefficient and provides better sealing action5w30 is less viscous than 10w30 5w30 is also the thinner engine oil of the two at lower temperatures 5w30 is used for lightduty engines while 10w30 is used for engines which carry heavier loads 10w30 provides sealing action in the engine due to the fact that it is thicker than 5w30 engine oil
For 10W30 oil, the 30 is the same as the SAE 30 viscosity rating for warm oil, but the 10W is the viscosity rating for cold oil, according to a standardized rating system developed by the SAE for winter oil use And that's what the "W" stands for "winter"The difference between 10w40 and 5w30 motor oil is in the ability of the oil to cling to the engine's moving parts, which dictates the best application for each type of oil First Number The first number in the motor oil's name describes the oil's cold viscosityThe second number, 30, reflects the engine oil's thickness once it reaches the engine's highest operating temperature 5w30 and 10w30 are on par in terms of thickness In summary, 5w30 will reach the engine's internal components faster than 10w30
10W30 motor oil is recommended for ambient temperatures not exceeding 30°C/22°F in the winter or 35°C/95°F in the summer This is a great motor oil to use if you live in Canada or cooler US states Colder regions would require 5W, while hotter regions may call for 10W40The 5w30 and 10w30 motor oils differ by their viscosity The former is less viscous than the latter 5w30 is thinner than 10w30 at low temperatures Thus, 5w30 is better suited for colder regions where the temperatures dip to – 30°C But this multigrade oil will work well even at 35°C
